Styrene butadiene rubbers (SBR) are synthesized from styrene and 1,3-butadiene. There are two major types of synthesis methods for SBR production, that is emulsion polymerization (radical polymerization) and solution polymerization (anionic polymerization). SBR produced by these two methods are used mainly in automobile tires. Especially, solution styrene butadiene rubbers (SSBR) are considered as ideal rubber for eco-tire. In this article, the industrial synthesis methods of SBR are introduced.
