Epoxy/Silica Hybrids
Tomoyuki Matsumura, Mitsukazu Ochi Faculty of Engineering, Kansai University Osaka,Japan Nippon Gomu Kyokaishi,(2003),76(9), 329-333 General Review in Japanese. Abstract Unique properties of various kinds of organic-inorganic hybrid materials based on epoxy resin were introduced in this review. These hybrid materials were synthesized from an alkoxysilane via a sol-gel process. In these hybrids, inorganic component was dispersed in the organic polymer matrix in the nano-meter or molecular scale. These kinds of organic-inorganic hybrid materials showed higher glass transition temperature (Tg) and lower coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) than that of the neat epoxy or the epoxy/clay nanocomposite system. These may result from the micro-Brownian motion of the epoxy network was depressed by the finely dispersed silica network. Keywords: Epoxy/ Silica/ Hybrid/ Sol-gel process |
